Belotero® Fine Line Dermal Filler Injections
Non-surgical Treatment of Crow’s Feet and Fine Lines in the San Diego Area
Dr. Melanie Palm is a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic plastic surgeon with offices located in Solana Beach, CA just north of San Diego. She is an expert in the use of injectable fillers, including Belotero. Belotero is best used to improve the appearance of the super fine lines located around the mouth, cheeks, and eyes.
What is Belotero?
Belotero is a temporary hyaluronic acid filler in the same class of fillers as Juvederm, Restylane, and Restylane Lyft. What makes it unique is its area of placement in the skin. Unlike other fillers in its class, Belotero is placed very high up in the dermis, the second layer of the skin. This makes this gel filler effective and safe for erasing fine lines on the face.
What makes Belotero different from other hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, or Restylane Lyft?
Belotero is used more superficially than these other fillers to eliminate fine lines. These other fillers are not placed as high up in the skin as their placement may result in bluish discoloration sometimes referred to as the “Tyndall effect.” Additionally, It’s made of a double-crosslinked technology that yields a smooth cohesive gel that degrades slowly over time.
Is Belotero similar to collagen injections?
Sort of. It is used in a similar manner to the way human collagen was used in the past. It is excellent at filling fine lines as was collagen. As collagen is no longer available for use in the U.S., Belotero is likely to become a favorite for addressing stubborn fine wrinkles. However, Belotero belongs to the class of fillers called hyaluronic acids.
How much do Belotero dermal filler injections cost in the San Diego area?
This product is purchased by the syringe. Typically, it is less expensive than other hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, or Restylane Lyft as results may not last as long.
Belotero FAQ's
Belotero is an excellent filler for fine etched in lines and wrinkles. It is FDA-approved for use around the mouth. It is excellent for instantly improving vertical lip lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, parentheses, and chin lines. However, it is also extremely useful in eliminating fine lines around the eyes called even crow’s feet. This product could be used in other areas such as horizontal neck lines and filling the angry 11’s – the etched in lines from furrowing one’s eyebrows.
According to FDA-labeling, this product has a duration of 6 months or longer. In real practice, results typically last between 3-6 months. Areas with greater movement such as around the mouth may have shorter duration periods. However, according to clinical studies, Belotero may require less volume to correct fine lines than other competing products.
Adverse effects from Belotero are similar to any other temporary filler. Swelling, discomfort, bruising, and tenderness in the area of injection are all possible. Avoiding blood-thinning medications and supplements prior to injection can lessen the chance of side effects occurring following Belotero treatment.
Dr. Palm takes pride in a gentle approach to all injectables used at Art of Skin MD, making injection virtually painless. Belotero itself does not come with numbing agents incorporated into the filler itself. Therefore, topical numbing, as well as nerve blocks, may be used to make injection of Belotero easy and comfortable for all patients.
