Restylane® Lyft (Perlane)

Restylane® Lyft (Formerly Perlane) Dermal Filler Injections

Non-Surgical Deep Wrinkle Treatment in the San Diego Area

Restylane® Lyft is one of the newest products on the market but was once sold as Perlane. Dr. Melanie Palm serves as a key opinion leader, lecturer and trainer for Galderma, the company that distributes Restylane, Restylane LyftRestylane SilkRestylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne and Dysport in the U.S.  In this capacity, she instructs other physicians and injectors on the safety and use of this product. Dr. Palm was selected as the physician to inject the model highlighted in national print advertising for the Restylane® Lyft campaign in 2016. Her offices are in Solana Beach, CA just north of San Diego.

About Restylane® Lyft (formerly Perlane)

Restylane® Lyft is the most robust form of the class Restylane® family of hyaluronic acid gel fillers used in facial rejuvenation. Restylane® Lyft was formerly called Perlane in the U.S. and the products are exactly the same. Restylane® Lyft is simply a larger gel particle version of the classic Restylane®. It is approved for the improvement of deep facial folds such as nasolabial folds, as well as midfacial rejuvenation such as cheek balancing. Restylane® Lyft is pre-mixed with the anesthetic lidocaine, increasing patient comfort during an injection session.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is an abundant particle found in the dermis of the skin. It attracts water, imparting moisture (hydration), structure, and firmness to the skin. Hyaluronic acid is abundant in young skin, but degrades slowly over time. Loss of hyaluronic acid in aging skin leads to loss of structural support and the formation of lines and folds. Replacement of hyaluronic acid with fillers such as Restylane® Lyft can volumize and balance areas of the skin that have deflated with time and exposure to environmental factors such as ultraviolet light exposure.

How long does Restylane® Lyft last?

The Restylane® family of products are classified as temporary fillers and typically last approximately 6 to 12 months. Although Restylane® Lyft typically lasts around 1 year or less, the filler may last longer if more product is used during a single injection session, or if Restylane® Lyft is injected in areas of the face with less frequent motion. For example, fillers such as Restylane® Lyft tend to be broken down or metabolized more quickly around the mouth, where movement is frequent and repetitive, compared to the midface. As Restylane® Lyft dissipates, the remaining filler attracts water to the area of wrinkle correction, creating persistent wrinkle and facial fold correction.

Where Can Restylane Lyft® Be Used?

Restylane® Lyft injections can be used to treat a number of areas:

Facial areas treated with Restylane Lyft

Many areas of the face respond well to Restylane® Lyft treatment. This hyaluronic acid filler is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds including the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, vertical lip lines, and corners of the mouth. In 2015, Restylane® Lyft was approved for cheek augmentation, in order to enhance volume loss in the midface. Off label, Dr. Palm may select to use Restylane® Lyft to enhance the jawline or soften volume loss in the temple region.

Use of Restylane Lyft (Perlane®) on the Nose and Ear

This product can be used in often overlooked areas of the face. Small amounts of either filler can be used to create small nasal humps, nasal tip drooping, or asymmetry of the nose, creating a liquid rhinoplasty (nose job). Small amounts of Restylane® Lyft can also be placed in the earlobes to allow earrings to rest more pleasingly and upright.

Liquid Facelift with Restylane Lyft

This product can be combined with other fillers or with concomitant use of Botox® or Dysport® to create a liquid facelift. The use of fillers for facial balancing and harmony recreates critical highlights and shadows of beauty that the area lost with time, due to the aging process. These fillers are safe for use with other topical measures and light and laser procedures.

Correction of Filler Mistakes

Dr. Palm often consults patients with prior, less optimized filler outcomes. Overcorrection with Restylane® Lyft can be corrected quickly, if necessary, through the use of hyaluronidase – an enzyme that breaks down the entire hyaluronic acid family of filler products.

Safety and Side Effects of the Restylane® Family of Products

There is very little potential for reaction to hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane® Lyft unlike earlier generation, more reactive fillers such as collagen. Mild swelling and bruising are the most likely side effects following injection. These side effects can be minimized with proper injection technique. Due to the trace protein content found in the fillers due to the manufacturing process, very, very rarely an allergic reaction may result. Dr. Palm discusses the risks and benefits of treatment at the time of consultation and prior to treatment.

How Much Does Restylane® Lyft Cost?

Restylane® Lyft is more expensive than classic Restylane®. Dr. Palm and Art of Skin MD is focused on outcomes, not the cost for patients. Therefore, a tailored treatment for each individual patient is clearly outlined at the time of consultation.
