Restylane® Refyne, Filler for Wrinkles
What is Restylane® Refyne?
Restylane® Refyne is manufactured by one of the largest and most respected dermatology companies in the world, Galderma; which is owned by Nestle Skin Health. Refyne is a hyaluronic acid filler from the Restylane family of products. Refyne is used for the correction of deeper wrinkles of the face such as nasolabial folds (smile lines). Restylane® Refyne is designed with XpresHAn Technology™ to help soften laugh lines (nasolabial folds and marionette lines). This can help you restore a more natural look to your face while maintaining your facial expressions while maintaining your natural appearance.
What makes Restylane® Refyne different from other hyaluronic acid fillers?
Restylane Refyne is a smooth gel that provides good improvement of mild to moderate facial wrinkles. It is similar to Restylane® Defyne, but is a “lighter” product used for filling shallower facial wrinkles. Because of how the hyaluronic acid strands within Restylane Refyne are bonded together, the gel is smooth and integrates well into the area of injection. Also due to its filler structure, Restylane Refyne may provide a longer duration and allow less swelling than some previous fillers used for wrinkle reduction.
As skin loses elasticity with age, the lines that run from the sides of your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines) appear more noticeable. Restylane Refyne is a specifically formulated hyaluronic acid dermal filler made with XpresHAn TechnologyTM that helps correct these lines for a more natural look to your face. The unique cross-linking of the gel in Restylane Refyne is also designed to help support your natural expression—for real-life results that help maintain natural movement when you’re smiling, frowning and even puckering up.
What is Dr. Palm’s experience with Restylane® Refyne?
Dr. Palm serves as an Advisory Board member, clinical investigator, national speaker, and physician trainer for Galderma, the company that makes Restylane Refyne. This indicates she has been selected to educate other physicians on products use and safety, and that she has assisted in studies related to Galderma products. Additionally, Dr. Palm was amongst the first U.S. physicians in the country to inject the product and was selected to learn from Canadian experts outside the country on injection techniques prior to Restylane Refyne becoming available in the U.S.
Where can Restylane® Refyne be used?
Does Restylane® Refyne look natural in the face
Yes. Restylane Refyne integrates into the area of placement extremely well, lending this filler to a very natural result in expert hands. Dr. Palm tailors filler placement and selection to individual patient needs, always striving for correction of aging changes, enhancement of beautiful features of the face, and restoration of facial balance.
Can Restylane® Refyne be combined with other fillers or procedures?
Yes, Restylane Refyne is often used by Dr. Palm in conjunction with other fillers, skin tightening procedures, or light and laser based technologies to create a more enhanced outcome. Restylane Refyne may be used with other fillers to balance the face and restore lost volume, a process called a “liquid facelift.” Dermal fillers such as Restylane Refyne are well paired with neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport, in order to relax overactive facial muscles and smooth wrinkles related to exuberant facial expression. While Refyne restores balance to the face, light and laser technologies such as IPL, fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, or ResurFX may be employed to eliminate unwanted brown spots, broken blood vessels, enlarged pores, or uneven skin texture and wrinkles. Finally, skin tightening treatments such as Ultherapy, Instalift, or Exilis are excellent complements to filler use with products such as Restylane Refyne.
How much downtime is there following Restylane® Refyne treatment?
In Dr. Palm’s experience, there is typically mild to minimal swelling following Restylane Refyne treatment. While individual results may vary, most patients experience minimal to mild swelling for a day or two. Most patients can resume daily social activities same day.
As with any injectable dermal filler, there is a chance of bruise. Dr. Palm may use a cannula technique to minimize this risk, and patients should avoid medications, supplements, and vitamins that thin the blood for one week prior to treatment.
Does Restylane® Refyne injection hurt?
There is typically minimal pain during Restylane Refyne placement. In clinical studies it was shown to be quite comfortable during injection as numbing medication called lidocaine is mixed into the filler itself. Dr. Palm makes every effort to make sure patients are comfortable and at ease during their injection session. In order to ameliorate any discomfort, we provide patients with topical numbing prior to treatment. Additionally, the use of ice or nerve blocks may be utilized to maximize patient comfort during the Restylane Refyne procedure.
What is the cost of Restylane Refyne?
The price of Restylane Refyne ranges by number of syringes used and the area of product placement
What are the possible side effects of Restylane® Refyne?
The side effects of Restylane Refyne are similar to any other FDA-approved injectable hyaluronic acid filler product. More common and mild side effects following Restylane Refyne include pain during injection, swelling at the site of placement, or a bruise. Extremely rare reactions include allergic reaction to the filler, infection, compression of a nearby vessel causing skin changes, visual disturbances, or stroke. These are very uncommon and should prompt a patient to call the treating physician immediately.
