Liquid Facelift & Facial Balancing

Liquid Facelift & Facial Balancing

Dr. Melanie Palm is a nationally recognized dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon specializing in artistic, thoughtful, and conservative filler use for liquid facelift results. Her offices are located in Solana Beach, CA just north of San Diego. Dr. Palm lectures nationally on facial rejuvenation and fillers and is a clinical investigator, speaker, and thought leader for all of the major filler manufacturers. She offers many effective treatment options for enhancing the face with injectable filler use.

Facial Enhancement with a Thoughtful, Artistic, and Natural Approach

Nearly any qualified healthcare professional can inject a filler. However, it is the artistry and eye of the injector that truly differentiates average from amazing results. When a patient under the right care undergoes facial rejuvenation procedures with regular maintenance, age can almost be suspended. Individuals can continue to look refreshed, natural, and spectacular without any obvious signs of skin or facial rejuvenation. Our goal at Art of Skin MD is to maintain each patient’s individual facial features, enhance the characteristic features that make them beautiful, and support areas of the face that begin to deplete with time. Excellent cosmetic work leaves a person looking natural, younger and more attractive without anyone detecting work was done!

An understanding of how to enhance beauty and reverse signs of aging comes from a complete understanding of facial anatomy, a systematic approach to assessing facial features and aging, and a stepwise approach to rejuvenation and achieving facial symmetry. We begin to undergo facial aging in our 20s and 30s, and this process occurs more quickly and visibly in women than men. Each year after 30, an average adult loses approximately a tablespoon of fat volume off of our face. In addition to loss of facial volume, the bony skeleton of our face remodels and loses density and support, and our skin ages due to UV exposure, environmental changes, and genetics.

The great news is there is so much we can do non-surgically and even noninvasively to repair, maintain, and enhance our looks. The sooner the better. Preventative maintenance is key. A wrinkle that never forms is far easier to treat than an etched in one. Periodic maintenance treatments with light laser work, preventative Botox/Dysport, and proper filler placement can suspend time and keep patients looking natural, great for their age, and without signs of “work being done.”

Liquid Facelift Treatments and Facial Balancing with Injectables

There is no single algorithm or formula to facial rejuvenation with injectable fillers and Botox. There are now over a dozen injectable fillers FDA-approved in the U.S., as well as several Botox-like products. An ethical aesthetic injector will choose the correct filler/injectable for each individual patient based on his/her needs, the properties of the filler itself, and anatomic considerations and limits of each product.

Facial balancing and a liquid facelift is often performed over several treatment sessions. Maintenance and touch-up treatments are required, but less product or more time may elapse between subsequent treatment sessions to maintain the same result.

The following is an abbreviated and incomplete list of injectable possibilities utilized by Dr. Palm and her Art of Skin MD in facial balancing and enhancement.   These injectable products may be combined with other procedures including laser or skin tightening devices for an added effect:

  • Volumalift: A combination of Juvederm family of products may be used to recreate facial contours, correct areas of volume loss, and smooth facial wrinkles or rejuvenate the lips. Products used in this package include Voluma, Juvederm, Vollure, and Volbella.. These products are often combined with Botox to balance soften muscle movement and restoration of facial balance and volume.
  • Restylane Lift: Similar to the Volumalift package, Restylane Lyft combines a mix and match of various injectable fillers in the Restylane suite of products. Restylane Lyft is often used for building midfacial structure, Restylane Refyne or Restylane for rejuvenation around the eye or lips, and Restylane Silk to smooth lip lines. These injectables can also be combined with Botox or Dysport for a synergistic effect
  • Sculptra graduation series: Sculptra Cosmetic is poly-L-lactic acid, a milk sugar like product that is a collagen stimulator. Completed as a series of monthly injectable treatments, the Sculptra slowly is broken down in the areas of placement into carbon dioxide and water, while simultaneously stimulating your own collagen growth. Sculptra is used for global (full face) rejuvenation to restore lost volume. It is often used to create a foundation of facial balancing gradually but substantially over a period of months and is long-lasting, with a duration of approximately 25 months. Dr. Palm recommends yearly lighter treatment to maintain the results from the initial series of Sculptra treatment. Sculptra can be used off the face for collagen and volume restoration in areas such as the decollete, arms, and buttocks/thighs.
  • Radiesse Restoration: Radiesse is a calcium-based filler that is ideal for restoring bony structure in the face including the cheekbones, jawline, and chin.   It is also extremely helpful in providing volume restoration in the lateral aspects of the face, particularly in patients that are naturally slim or have had a facelift. Radiesse lasts 9-12 months but builds collagen as it dissipates away. It is also helpful and FDA-approved in hand rejuvenation.

A combination approach is sometimes ideal for creating natural, restorative, and pleasing facial rejuvenation with injectable fillers. A liquid facelift is often combined at Art of Skin MD to achieve the aesthetic goals of our patients in regards to facial symmetry, balance, and rejuvenation as an alternative to surgical options such as a facelift or necklift.
