Glowing Skin: Harper’s Bazaar Features Dr. Palm

First, Art of Skin MD continues to be trailblazing when it comes to cosmetic trends for Spring and getting glowing skin.  This month, I am featured as an expert that spills the secrets on getting glowing skin.  In the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar on newsstands now, you can get my dermatology secrets to amazing skin with topical skin care products.

In this two page feature, I divulge some of my favorite secrets to glowing skin for summer.

Sunscreen, brightening agents like vitamin C, and use of chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid are all important components to a comprehensive “get glowing skin” care routine

Number one is no surprise….sunscreen!  Using one daily is the most important foundation to warding off and retarding aging changes to the skin such as sun spots, sallowness, wrinkling, broken blood vessels, skin discoloration, and uneven skin texture.  Select a broad-spectrum sunscreen that contains zinc such as Elta MD or Art of Skin MD sunscreen.

Another thing to consider in your skin care routine?  Brightening agents!  Especially with the harsh year round skin of southern California.  What is my usual go-to for brightening skin?  Vitamin C or “ascorbic acid” of course!  Why?  Several reasons…

  1.  Vitamin C is a co-factor for collagen growth
  2. Vitamin C interferes with the pigment production pathway improving brown discoloration of the skin
  3. Vitamin C is  an antioxidant that squelches free radical production in the skin as a result of UV exposure

Finally, consider adding a chemical exfoliating agent to help reveal revitalized skin for Spring.  What’s the best for most skin types?  A glycolic agent in the form of weekly peel pads or as a glycolic wash are great ways to deliver this alpha hydroxy acid to the skin.  Consider something from the Art of Skin MD line
