Ultherapy Skin Tightening Made Comfortable For Patients

by Shane Clark

Ultherapy is a non-surgical, no downtime, in-office procedure that lifts and tones sagging skin. It is often used to tighten the lower face, jawline and brow areas as well as to rejuvenate the décolleté area of the chest. Ultherapy offers long-lasting results that occur gradually over time, but many people have had difficulty with undergoing this procedure, as it can be quite uncomfortable – until now! As patient comfort is a top priority here at Art of Skin MD, Dr. Melanie Palm has instituted a numbing technique that has resulted in patients describing their Ultherapy treatments as “quite comfortable.”

Ultherapy utilizes ultrasound energy to penetrate deep below the skin and fat layer of the face where it targets connective tissue, which is a firm, tough layer that supports facial and neck contours. As we age, this connective tissue naturally loosens and droops – Ultherapy can help to reverse or prevent this droop. The penetration below the skin can be uncomfortable, however, Dr. Palm’s numbing technique has changed that dramatically. There are areas that don’t numb well with nerve blocks, specifically, the cheek and neck areas and this is the reason that procedures such as Ultherapy, Infiini and CO2 laser resurfacing would sometimes cause discomfort for patients.

In a constant effort to provide the highest quality, state-of-the-art care for our patients, Dr. Palm was excited when she was told about the mesoram needle. She described it as a “no-brainer” – she had found a way that she could lightly distribute anesthesia while maintaining the effects the treatment delivers thus solving the issue of discomfort for our patients and allowing them to achieve the results with little to no pain at all.
