CO2 laser skin resurfacing yields is considered the “gold standard” of skin rejuvenation.   It offers more dramatic changes in skin texture with a single treatment and can be highly effective in treating wrinkles, crepey skin, acne scarring, surgical scars, and lines around the eyes and mouth.  Skin appears smoother in texture and pore size may be minimized following treatment due to the intense collagen production stimulated from the laser skin treatment.  The face, neck, chest, hands and areas of surgical scars are the most common areas of CO2 laser skin resurfacing treatment.

Modern CO2 laser skin resurfacing procedures are very different from those performed of the past.  In most cases, fractionated CO2 laser skin resurfacing is used today, allowing decreased downtime, enhanced healing yet significant effects on the skin.  Fractionated CO2 laser treatment causes selective remodeling and heating of the skin, stimulating new collagen growth.  The effect is more radiant, smoother, and even toned skin.

In most cases, Dr. Palm combines CO2 laser skin resurfacing with IPL during the same procedure.  This more effectively addresses both tone and texture of the skin.  For patients with severe sun damage and precancerous spots called actinic keratoses, Dr. Palm may choose to combine CO2 laser skin resurfacing with photodynamic therapy (PDT) to fight precancerous spots and improve skin quality during a single session and combining the downtime of both procedures into a single session.
